Merit Badge College

Merit Badge College registration is full and is now closed.

This is the great event all the Scouts have been waiting for!
Over 30 Merit Badges Offered.

When does registration open?
Registration opens on Oct. 24th and closes on Dec. 11th. Classes will be filled on a first come first served basis.

How much do the Scouts pay?
$9.00 if paid by December 31st 2011, and $12.00 if paid on or after January 1st.

How many adults from each troop need to attend?
A minimum of one adult per troop and one adult for every 5 boys must be on site throughout the event in case of injury, illness or discipline problems with the youth from that unit. All troops are encouraged to provide MB Councilors or Assistants to help with classroom instruction. Please contact a member of the Merit Badge College Committee if you would like to help out.

Can I register for any of these Merit Badges?
Only two required for eagle merit badges per scout. Merit Badge Class registration will be done online and class spaces will be assigned on a first come, first served basis. Please register early because we have limited space and can accommodate no more than 300 scouts. All Scouts must be registered with the BSA before attending the College.

How do I register?
Registration forms will be available at www.lakeviewdistrict.org under the "Events" tab. We suggest that each troop have a single person do online registration for the entire troop. The troop registrar will require a password that will be provided for each troop at Round Table or through the MBC Registrar. Fees will be mailed to the council office.

How do I pay?

Make checks payable to Longhorn Council and please clearly indicate the Names and Unit affiliation of the boys being paid for. We prefer that troops pay with one check but individual scouts can pay as well.

How do I know which Classes I will be attending?
With the online registration you will be able to tell if there is room in each of the classes as you sign up. Also, a class schedule will be given to each scout on the morning of January 21st.

Do the Scouts have to attend both Saturdays?
Yes. The Scout will need to attend on both Saturday's to complete the badge. Class size may determine if a badge is offered. There may be a minimum number of boys required in each class to determine if the badge is taught. Alternate MB will be substituted if necessary.

Can I complete the Badges during the College?
Each class could require some pre-requisites and/or homework between sessions. Most badges can be completed during the College. Merit badge pre-requisites will be posted on-line at www.lakeviewdistrict.org under the advancement tab.

Will there be food available?
Donuts & juice will be served both mornings. A pizza lunch will be provided on the second Saturday at the conclusion of the event. The cost for these is included in the registration fee. No gum, coffee or tobacco products are permitted in the church building.

Can I only take one or two Merit Badges?
We prefer that each Scout take a full schedule of three merit badges. If you decide to take only one or two badges, please make arrangements to leave the facilities after your class. We do not have adult supervision available to monitor youth that are "roaming the halls". The cost of the event remains the same regardless of the number of MB classes taken.

All payments will be made by check. Please make all checks out to "Longhorn Council".
